If You Are Thinking About Buying A Sony Bravia, Read This
After 3 years with a 720p Samsung LCD TV I had always been happy with, I finally got a Blu-Ray player and decided it was time to upgrade to a 1080p TV. While doing some research I found the Sony Bravia and Samsung were exactly the same price and most reviews seemed to give the (slight) edge to Sony so I went with that. However after setting up the TV I noticed a little bug while testing out a couple movies: during scenes with extremely low light the picture dims (greying almost like a screensaver) and readjusts when the picture changes to more brightness. I went through all of the settings on the TV and couldn’t find any way to turn this off, so I went online to contact Sony and find out what the deal was.
The short version is: this is not a setting but an actual bug that has been fixed with a software upgrade for the TV. If you have a PC you can download this update from their website, but if you have a mac they must ship it to you.
The long version is this completely unedited conversation I had with Sony Customer Care.
