Occupying the Surfer Blood slot for 2011, the new album from the Smith Westerns will likely receive an inordinate number of plays just because it’s so easy to listen to. Ultra catchy pop songs from beginning to end, there’s no need to wait for it to grow on you. The Chicago power pop band at times remind me of T. Rex singing over The Beatles. So, that means they’re pretty good! As long as they’re not terrible at Mercury Lounge in a few weeks, I’ll likely be listening to them all year.
