Tribeca: Detachment review

The Tribeca Film Festival is often hit-or-miss and because the lineup is mostly unknown films by unestablished filmmakers, you have to roll the dice on a few choices. The first film I saw this year was one I hadn’t heard about but was very curious to see. “Detachment” stars Adrien Brody, Christina Hendricks, Marcia Gay Harden, James Caan, Lucy Liu, Bryan Cranston and Tim Blake Nelson among others.

It’s also the 2nd narrative feature from British director/provacateur Tony Kaye. His last (non-doc) effort was 1998’s “American History X,” which I remember loving at the time but haven’t seen in about a decade so I have no idea how it might hold up (has anybody watched it recently?) Does his new one measure up?
